This Privacy Policy explains how Alpha & Omega Limited ("Alpha & Omega Limited", "we", "us" or "our") handles information in connection with AutoWebP.com and the AutoWebP Responsive Image Engine, including the website, browser application and Progressive Web App ("AutoWebP", the "Service").

AutoWebP is intentionally designed around a local-first image-processing architecture. Core source-image decoding, resizing and encoding are performed on the user's own compatible device rather than by uploading images to an AutoWebP image-conversion server.

2. Scope of This Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy applies to information processed in connection with:

• the AutoWebP website;
• the AutoWebP browser-based converter;
• the AutoWebP Progressive Web App;
• communications sent to AutoWebP;
• normal website hosting and infrastructure operations;
• security, availability and abuse-prevention activities associated with operating the Service.

3. Local Image Processing

AutoWebP is designed so that images selected for conversion are processed locally using browser capabilities on the user's device.

Where supported source formats contain orientation information, AutoWebP may read that orientation value locally so rotation or mirroring can be normalized before resizing and encoding. This orientation processing does not require the source image to be uploaded to an AutoWebP image-conversion server.

Core image operations may include:

• decoding selected image files;
• reading source image dimensions;
• calculating responsive dimensions;
• resizing images;
• drawing image data through browser canvas functionality;
• encoding WebP output;
• encoding AVIF output using native support or a local-running codec fallback;
• encoding JPEG and PNG output;
• encoding still-frame GIF, TIFF, BMP and ICO output where selected;
• decoding HEIC/HEIF and TIFF through local-running codec fallbacks where required;
• generating full-size optimized copies;
• generating responsive image variants;
• calculating SHA-256 hashes for duplicate detection;
• generating ZIP archives;
• generating example responsive HTML markup.

AutoWebP's core application is not designed to upload the contents of selected source images to an AutoWebP image-processing server for conversion.

4. Source Image Access

AutoWebP only receives access to local images when the user deliberately selects, drops or otherwise supplies those files to the application through browser-supported file-selection mechanisms.

AutoWebP does not have unrestricted access to files stored on the user's device.

Browser and operating-system permissions remain subject to the security model of the user's browser and device.

5. Generated Image Files

Generated WebP, AVIF, JPEG, PNG, GIF, TIFF, BMP, ICO and ZIP output files are created within the AutoWebP workflow and downloaded through the user's browser or installed PWA.

Once an output file has been downloaded, the file is controlled by the user and the user's device, operating system, browser, storage provider or other chosen destination.

Alpha & Omega Limited does not control how users subsequently store, publish, transmit or otherwise use downloaded output files.

6. Temporary Browser Processing Data

During image processing, AutoWebP may create temporary in-browser data such as:

• JavaScript objects;
• temporary processing state;
• canvas image data;
• Blob objects;
• temporary object URLs;
• generated output buffers;
• temporary ZIP-generation data;
• temporary duplicate-detection hashes.

This information normally exists within the user's browser session and memory and is subject to browser lifecycle, memory-management and page-session behaviour.

7. Progressive Web App Caching

AutoWebP uses a service worker and browser cache functionality to support Progressive Web App behaviour.

The PWA may cache application resources such as:

• HTML files;
• CSS files;
• JavaScript files;
• icons;
• logos and interface images;
• manifest resources;
• offline application resources.

The application cache is designed to support the AutoWebP interface and offline-capable application shell.

AutoWebP is not designed to automatically place user-selected source-image contents into the service-worker application cache.

8. Browser Storage and Local Preferences

AutoWebP may use browser-provided storage technologies where necessary to support application behaviour, user preferences, PWA state, installation-related behaviour or interface settings.

Depending on the browser and current version of AutoWebP, this may include:

• localStorage;
• sessionStorage;
• Cache Storage;
• service-worker storage;
• other standard browser-managed storage mechanisms.

Users can generally clear this information using their browser or device storage controls.

9. Cookies

AutoWebP does not require advertising or behavioural-tracking cookies to perform its core image-conversion functions.

If cookies or similar technologies are introduced for a new purpose in the future, including analytics, advertising, authentication or other functionality, this Privacy Policy and any legally required consent controls should be updated before those technologies are used where required by applicable law.

10. PWA Installation Metrics

AutoWebP may use privacy-preserving aggregate mechanisms to record application-installation activity or similar operational events.

Where such functionality is used, it is intended to measure aggregate application usage or installation activity rather than create behavioural advertising profiles of individual users.

11. Website and Hosting Logs

Like most websites, the infrastructure used to deliver AutoWebP may automatically create technical server, network, security or access logs when users request pages or website assets.

Such logs may include information such as:

• IP address;
• request date and time;
• requested URL or file;
• HTTP response status;
• browser or user-agent information;
• referrer information;
• network and security events;
• server error information.

These infrastructure logs are separate from AutoWebP's local source-image processing workflow.

12. Purposes for Processing Information

Where Alpha & Omega Limited processes personal information in connection with AutoWebP, it may be processed for purposes including:

• operating and delivering the website;
• maintaining Service availability;
• responding to support enquiries;
• responding to general communications;
• diagnosing technical faults;
• maintaining website and network security;
• detecting abusive or malicious activity;
• preventing fraud or misuse;
• maintaining legal and regulatory compliance;
• protecting Alpha & Omega Limited's rights and systems;
• improving the operation and reliability of AutoWebP.

13. Legal Bases Where Applicable

Where laws such as the GDPR or UK GDPR apply, personal information may be processed under one or more applicable legal bases, including:

• performance of a contract or steps requested before entering into a contract;

This information may be used to respond to your enquiry, investigate technical issues, maintain correspondence records, protect legal interests and improve the Service.

15. Images or Files Sent for Support

Users should not send confidential, private, sensitive, proprietary or personal source images to AutoWebP support unless providing the file is genuinely necessary for resolving a technical issue.

Any file deliberately emailed or otherwise transmitted to AutoWebP support is no longer part of the purely local browser-processing workflow and may be processed as part of the support request.

16. Local Codec Modules and Code Delivery

AutoWebP uses browser-native image codecs where possible. For formats that require additional support, the application can request pinned program-code modules for AVIF, HEIC/HEIF, TIFF, GIF and related decompression support from the pinned jsDelivr npm content-delivery network.

These requests download software code to the user's browser so decoding or encoding can run locally. AutoWebP is not designed to upload the user's source-image contents to the codec provider for remote conversion.

A codec-module request can expose ordinary Internet request metadata to the delivery provider, such as IP address, request time, requested module URL, browser networking information and other standard delivery/security log data. After successful caching, a previously downloaded codec may be reused without another network fetch until browser storage is cleared, evicted or updated.

Current pinned codec technologies include the jSquash AVIF codec ecosystem, libheif-js, UTIF.js, gifenc and pako. Their open-source licences apply to their software components.

17. Service Providers and Third Parties

Alpha & Omega Limited may use service providers necessary to operate AutoWebP, such as:

• website hosting providers;
• domain and DNS providers;
• network or CDN providers where applicable;
• email providers;
• security providers;
• backup or infrastructure providers;
• professional advisers where required.

Such providers may process limited technical or personal information in connection with the services they provide.

The core AutoWebP image converter does not require a third-party cloud image-processing API to perform its principal conversion workflow.

18. External Websites

AutoWebP may contain links to third-party or related websites.

Alpha & Omega Limited is not responsible for the privacy practices, content or data-handling policies of independent external websites.

Users should review the applicable privacy policy of any external service they choose to visit.

19. When Information May Be Disclosed

Personal information may be disclosed where reasonably necessary to:

• comply with applicable law;
• respond to lawful legal process;
• comply with court orders;
• respond to lawful regulatory or governmental requests;
• investigate suspected fraud or abuse;
• protect the security of AutoWebP;
• protect users or the public;
• enforce applicable legal terms;
• protect the rights, property or legal interests of Alpha & Omega Limited.

20. Sale of Personal Information

AutoWebP does not operate its core image-processing application as a system for selling users' selected source images.

Alpha & Omega Limited does not claim ownership of source images merely because the user processes them through AutoWebP.

21. Data Retention

Information retained by Alpha & Omega Limited is kept only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes for which it was collected, including operational, legal, accounting, security, dispute-resolution and regulatory purposes.

Retention periods may vary depending on the type of information and the reason for retaining it.

Temporary local image-processing data remains subject to the user's browser session, device storage and browser-management behaviour.

22. Security

Alpha & Omega Limited takes reasonable technical and organisational measures intended to protect information within its control against unauthorised access, misuse, alteration, disclosure or destruction.

AutoWebP's local-first architecture reduces the need to transmit source-image content to a remote conversion server for core processing.

However, no website, browser, communication network, device, storage system or security process can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

23. User Device and Browser Security

Users are responsible for maintaining the security of their own devices, browsers, downloaded files, local accounts and storage environments.

Alpha & Omega Limited is not responsible for unauthorised access resulting from compromised user devices, malware, insecure browser extensions, shared devices, weak operating system security or other circumstances outside our reasonable control.

24. International Processing and Transfers

The Internet and modern hosting infrastructure may involve processing or transmission of technical information across national borders.

Service providers may operate infrastructure in countries other than the user's own country.

Where legally required, reasonable safeguards will be used in connection with international transfers of personal information.

25. New Zealand Privacy Rights

Alpha & Omega Limited is based in New Zealand and intends to handle personal information consistently with applicable New Zealand privacy law, including the Privacy Act 2020 where it applies.

Subject to applicable law and exceptions, individuals may have rights to request access to personal information held about them and to request correction of inaccurate personal information.

26. European Economic Area and United Kingdom Rights

Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies to our processing, individuals may have rights including, subject to applicable conditions and exemptions:

Depending on the law and whether it applies to Alpha & Omega Limited, these rights may include requesting access, correction, deletion or information concerning certain disclosures or uses of personal information.

AutoWebP is a general-purpose image-processing tool and is not specifically directed toward young children.

We do not knowingly design the Service for the purpose of collecting personal information from children contrary to applicable law.

30. Automated Decision-Making

AutoWebP's image conversion, responsive resizing and duplicate detection functions are technical processing operations.

They are not intended to make decisions producing legal or similarly significant effects about individuals.

31. Corporate or Business Changes

If Alpha & Omega Limited undergoes a merger, reorganisation, sale, transfer of assets, acquisition or similar corporate transaction, information associated with AutoWebP may form part of that transaction where legally permitted.

Any successor entity would remain subject to applicable privacy obligations concerning transferred personal information.

32. User Responsibility for Images

Users are responsible for ensuring that they have the lawful right to process any image supplied to AutoWebP.

Users should not process, download, publish or distribute images in violation of privacy rights, confidentiality obligations, copyright, intellectual property rights, data-protection law or other applicable legal obligations.

33. Changes to This Privacy Policy

Alpha & Omega Limited may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes to AutoWebP, applicable law, business operations, technical architecture or service providers.

The updated version will be published on this page and may include a revised effective date.

Users are encouraged to review this Privacy Policy periodically.
